Music is hard to promote, bands and singers have to battle to be broadcast by the radio and the TV channels. For western bands, it’s a bit easier, because they usually dispose of more finances to advertise their music. But when it comes to local Afrofusion music in Kenya, radios and TV channels seem to be quite subjective. Indeed, as the author of this article Joseph Ngunjiri points out, because of poor marketing and a lack of awareness among Kenyans regarding local Afrofusion music, Kenyan medias are ambivalent towards local music. Ngunjiri takes the example of an advertisement teaser for a telecommunications company composed by Eric Wainaina and Oliver Mutukudzi to show how difficult for Afrofusion bands to reach the masses and to become popular.
