Up one levelArts journalism workshop
The arts journalism workshop took place in July 2008 in Swaziland. It was held to address: The arts seldom receive significant space in the print and electronic media of most African countries. Where such space is provided, the few arts journalists employed are required to report on and provide critical reviews covering a range of disciplines, about which they might have minimal knowledge. The lack of critical knowledge and skills on the part of the journalists results in a lack of critical discourse around the arts so that the development of the arts is impacted negatively. At the same time, critical, informed audiences and markets are not developed. The arts may also be allocated to junior staff with less experience and writing skills within various media.
