The seven themes are as follows:
•    The cultural dimension of development: what is its relevance today?
•    Understanding the creative industries;
•    The Nairobi Plan of Action on the Cultural Industries;
•    Climate change and its relevance to culture, cultural diversity and culture and development ;
•    The UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions;
•    Towards a critique and understanding of Intellectual property rights within varying African conditions;
•    Intercultural dialogue and cultural diplomacy;

In order to effectively implement this project the Arterial Network will establish a cultural policy taskforce to drive the project. This is not going to be a completely new initiative as the Arterial Network will work with existing policy initiatives and organisations such as the Observatory for Cultural Policies in Africa (OCPA), building on the excellent work that has already been done.
