Photo: is compiling a database of writers from Southern Africa. As a platform for the promotion of photography work, Photo: wants to help develop the practice of writing about photography in the region, today.
The platform wants to promote collaborative partnerships between democraSEE award recipients, finalists and selected writers for the database.
Writers who are interested, and/or have experience in writing about photography, are encouraged to submit writing samples to Photo: by 8 August 2020.
democraSEE is an award and mentorship platform to develop and show important contemporary photography stories and content from the Southern African region that deal with social and political issues and imaginaries. It wants to create a space to acknowledge photographers and photography’s role and position in relation to the world. Furthermore, it aims to support the growth of visual languages in photography.
Submissions are accepted from writers based in the following countries, only: Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Comoros, DRC, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Please submit a PDF of a writing sample no longer than 500 words. Creative writing samples, academic samples, blog entries, published writing and experimental samples are accepted. Submissions to Georgia Munnik georgiam@phototool.co.za
