The Steering Committee of Arterial Network met from the 30th of June to the 1st of July 2016 in Victoria, Seychelles.
Arterial Network is led by a continental Steering Committee that represents the five regions of the continent. The meeting reunited the nine members of the network’s Steering Committee to deliberate on the corporate governance aspects of the network. It also served as an opportunity to introduce the new staff at the Secretariat in Cape Town, particularly the new management team members who attended the meeting, Secretary General William Codjo and Finance and Admin Manager, Esperance Ayinkamiye. During the proceedings, the Steering Committee expressed their thanks to the outgoing Secretary General, Peter Rorvik, for his services and commitment to the network.
During their time on Mahé, the delegation visited the Arterial Network Seychelles stand at the four-day national show that celebrated the fortieth (40th) anniversary of Seychelles’ independence. Arterial Network Seychelles, with their official partner Hunt, Deltel & Co Ltd, invited families with children between 6 and 11 years old to celebrate the launch of the #GiantTortoiseParade by hosting a colouring-in competition. Arterial Network Seychelle’s Giant Aldabra tortoise project uses the arts to increase environmental awareness among children and is funded by the UNDP.
As part of the same campaign, Arterial Network Seychelles have contributed Giant Aldabra tortoise sculptures, painted by local artists, to an underwater art gallery at Le Meridien Fisherman’s Cove. This tourist attraction showcases the local art scene and draws attention to the fragility of species and ecosystems in the face of global warming.
